In short

  • If the deliverable is a Google Form in Drive from a PDF, Word file, or scan, start with Doc2Form or a Doc2Form vs. page below.
  • If you need payments, e-sign, or a hosted form URL, compare Jotform or Typeform first.
  • If you ship to many LMS tools in bulk, read Formswrite or GETMARKED before you commit.

Quality in, quality out

Blurry scans and dense paragraphs convert worse on every tool. These comparisons assume a readable source file. For scan tips and realistic outcomes, see convert PDF to Google Form.

Three types of tools people compare us to

Most searchers mix up three different categories. Pick yours before you open a detailed comparison.

1. Document-to-Google-Form converters turn a file into a Form: Doc2Form, Formswrite, Automagical Forms, GETMARKED Digitaliser, AI Form Maker, and Google Forms with Gemini. The argument is usually upload quality, scans, pricing, and whether the output stays in Drive.

2. Hosted form platforms build forms on their own URL: Jotform, Typeform, and pdfFiller (PDF-first, not always a live survey). You compare them to Doc2Form when someone said "Google Form" but the project secretly needs Stripe, logic, or design-led UX.

3. Suite defaults mean "use what IT already pays for": Microsoft Forms in M365 or Gemini inside Google Forms. Doc2Form matters when the native AI path does not accept your PDF or scan.

Three questions before you choose

1. Where must the form live?

Google Drive and Classroom expect a Google Form link and a Sheets tab for responses. Jotform and Typeform live on their own domains. Microsoft Forms lives in your tenant. If the brief says "Google Form," a hosted platform is the wrong category even when the marketing page says "import PDF."

2. What are you starting from?

A clean digital PDF is the easy case. A phone photo of a quiz, an 11-page HR packet, or a Word doc with tables is where tools diverge. Doc2Form and a few competitors lean into vision and scans; Gemini-in-Forms and many LMS exporters do not.

3. What happens after someone submits?

Sheets-only internal intake is different from card payments, HIPAA, e-sign, or pushing scores to Canvas. Match the tool to the post-submit workflow, not just the upload step.

When Doc2Form is usually the right pick

Doc2Form fits teams that:

  • Need a Google Form in Drive, not a third-party form URL. You share it the same way as any Form your team already uses.
  • Start from PDFs, Word files, or scans and want structure extracted, not retyped. A teacher with twenty minutes before class and a photo of a quiz is the classic case.
  • Prefer pay-per-use credits (first form free, credits do not expire) over another annual subscription for two conversions a semester.
  • Want an open-source path: Google Apps Script, Gemini, and the Forms API in your account.

If that sounds like you, try the PDF workflow guide first, then open a vs page only when a specific competitor is on your shortlist.

When Doc2Form is probably not enough

We would point you elsewhere when:

  • Stripe or PayPal on the form is required → Jotform comparison
  • E-signatures or HIPAA BAA on a hosted platform matter → Jotform or Typeform tiers, not Doc2Form
  • Heavy conditional logic beyond Google Forms basics → Jotform or Typeform
  • Bulk export to many LMS tools in one job → Formswrite or GETMARKED
  • Keep editing the PDF in place (fields, sign, send) → pdfFiller
  • Microsoft 365 is the only approved stackMicrosoft Forms comparison

None of that means Doc2Form is "bad" for those teams. It means the deliverable was never "Google Form from this PDF."

Real situations: which guide to open

These are composite stories from common support patterns. Names and details are anonymized.

Teacher: photo of a unit test before period two

A high school teacher had a four-page scan on her phone, not a clean PDF. She searched "PDF to Google Form" and landed on a generic form builder that wanted a monthly plan for one quiz. She needed a Google Form in Drive for Classroom, not a hosted survey. Doc2Form matched the file type and the deliverable; she skimmed Doc2Form vs Formswrite only to confirm she did not need LMS exports. Cleanup in the editor: under two minutes.

HR: eleven-page vendor onboarding once a quarter

An HR generalist gets a new vendor packet as PDF every few months. Retyping checkboxes is not worth a Jotform Business seat. Doc2Form credits fit low volume. She read Doc2Form vs Jotform to check whether payments on the form were needed (they were not). The Form linked to Sheets for audit like every other internal intake.

Instructional designer: Canvas + Google Forms

A university designer exports quizzes to Canvas and sometimes still wants a Google Form for pilot groups. Doc2Form alone does not replace QTI export. She used GETMARKED for LMS paths and Doc2Form when the stakeholder said "just put it in Google Forms from this scan."

Ops lead: "We already pay for Typeform"

Marketing wanted Typeform's UX; compliance wanted responses in Google Workspace. The ops lead opened Doc2Form vs Typeform to separate design-led hosting from Drive-native Forms, then routed the Google-only projects to convert PDF to Google Form.

How to use the comparison cards below

The grid at the bottom of this page lists every Doc2Form vs. guide with a one-line summary. Use it when you already know the competitor name from an ad, a colleague, or a marketplace search.

Start with the problem, not the logo:

  • Google Form only from documents → PDF or Word solution pages, then Doc2Form vs the competitor if they overlap.
  • LMS exports → Formswrite or GETMARKED comparisons.
  • Payments or hosted URL → Jotform or Typeform comparisons.
  • Suite default → Google Gemini or Microsoft Forms comparisons.

Word-specific intent: Word to Google Form. Scan-heavy files: scanned PDF to Google Form.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a form builder and a PDF-to-Google-Form converter?

A form builder (Jotform, Typeform) creates and hosts the form on its platform. A converter reads an existing document and builds a Google Form (or another target) from the structure it finds. Doc2Form is in the second group for Google Forms output.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to a Google Form?

Yes, with tools that use vision on the file, not just copy-paste. Doc2Form handles many scans; quality depends on legibility. See real-world examples on the PDF guide. Gemini inside Google Forms does not replace a full scan upload path for most users.

Is Doc2Form free?

Your first form is free on the hosted product. After that you buy credits that do not expire. There is also a free self-hosted path on GitHub with your own Gemini key. Competitors often use subscriptions or per-seat pricing; each comparison page breaks that down.

Doc2Form vs Formswrite: which is better for teachers?

Formswrite when you export to many LMS tools, run bulk jobs, or want API/Zapier at volume. Doc2Form when the job is Google Forms in Drive from PDFs or scans, you want pay-per-use pricing, or you do not need another school-year subscription. Full table: Doc2Form vs Formswrite.

Do I need a Google Workspace Marketplace add-on?

Not for Doc2Form on the web. AI Form Maker and Automagical Forms install into Docs or Workspace. Doc2Form signs in at doc2form.dev and writes to your Drive. Compare install models on AI Form Maker and Automagical.

Can Doc2Form replace Jotform or Typeform?

Only when the requirement is a Google Form from a document. It does not replace payments, advanced logic, HIPAA tiers, or Typeform's respondent experience. See Doc2Form vs Jotform and Doc2Form vs Typeform.
